The Pac-12 lives on.
This morning, the conference is adding Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State and Fresno State from the Mountain West beginning in 2026.
The teams join Washington State and Oregon State, the two teams left in the Pac-12 after last year’s conference realignment.
Reports online say the conference would still look to add two more teams to get to the eight required to be an FBS conference. These six schools would pick the remaining two.
Boise State posted the announcement on Twitter/X early this morning, saying the application for Boise State and three other schools to join the conference was unanimously approved by the Pac-12 board of directors.
The other schools posted a similar announcement at the same time.
The Pac-12 posted a graphic with the conference logo and logos for all six schools. The post on Twitter/X said simply, “Good morning! It’s a beautiful new day.”
In a news release posted to the conference website, the Pac-12 said competition with these six schools will begin in the 2026-2027 academic year.
““For over a century, the Pac-12 Conference has been recognized as a leading brand in intercollegiate athletics,” Commissioner Teresa Gould stated. “We will continue to pursue bold cutting-edge opportunities for growth and progress, to best serve our member institutions and student-athletes. I am thankful to our board for their efforts to welcome Boise State University, Colorado State University, California State University, Fresno, and San Diego State University to the conference. An exciting new era for the Pac-12 Conference begins today.”
WSU and OSU’s presidents issued a joint statement as well, saying “We are honored to welcome the distinguished leadership of Boise State University President Dr. Marlene Tromp, Colorado State University President Amy Parsons, California State University, Fresno President Dr. Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, and San Diego State University President Dr. Adela de la Torre to the Pac-12 Board of Directors. We eagerly anticipate their uniquely insightful contributions during this transformative era for the conference and collegiate athletics.”
This announcement comes a week after the WSU and OSU let a scheduling deadline lapse to schedule games with the Mountain West for next season.
Under NCAA rules, Oregon State and WSU could operate as a two-team league for two years. WSU and OSU won the rights to retain the Pac-12 logo and other intellectual property when the other 10 teams departed.
WSU is already playing Boise State, SDSU and Fresno State this season.
