SPOKANE, Wash – Former KXLY sports director Bud Namek will be among those inducted this week into the Inland Northwest Sports Hall of Fame.
Namek joined the KXLY sports team in 1982. He spent years on TV, then later became a news anchor on KXLY 920 radio. Namek was also on the broadcast team for Washington State University football and basketball teams.
Namek joins a class of six athletes and coaches inducted into the hall of fame in a sold-out ceremony at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
The ceremony will be recorded and aired on 4 News Now/KXLY at a later date.
Here’s the full list of honorees:
Stacy Clinesmith – Athlete – Stacey led her 1996 Mead Panthers basketball team to a AAA basketball title and the state’s Player of the Year. She went on to be a star at UC Santa Barbara. She then was selected to play for the Sacramento Monarchs in the 2000 WNBA draft and later played for the Detroit Shock. She then took the leap into coaching and joined the Gonzaga staff in 2014.
Sue Doering – Coach – Sue is a legendary volleyball coach in this region. With 33 years of coaching, Sue is best known for 29 years at Colfax High School. Her record includes a staggering 14 state volleyball titles at Colfax, five state runner-up finishes, and 19 consecutive top four finishes at state. Her final record at Colfax before retiring was 834-195. Sue went to Bonners Ferry High School and played volleyball at Eastern Washington University.
Isaac Fontaine – Athlete – Isaac was known as a marksman on the basketball court at Washington State from 1994-97. The 6-foot-4 guard scored 33 points in his second game at WSU. By the time he left Pullman, he was the all-time men’s scoring leader with 2,003 points and remains the school’s career leader in 3-point shooting (45.7 percent). In his final year at WSU, he was a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award and WSU’s Pac-10 medal winner.
Jennifer Stinson Greeny – Athlete and Coach – Jennifer was a standout basketball, volleyball and track and field athlete at Davenport High School. She was inducted into the WIAA Hall of Fame in 2023 and continues her success as an award-winning volleyball coach. She is now coaching at West Virginia but started her coaching career at Washington State. In her career, she made four NCAA tournament appearances with Lewis-Clark State, and eight NCAA trips with WSU.
Dennis LaRue – Contributor – Dennis spent 26 years in the National Hockey League and is often called the best U.S. hockey referee in history. He graduated from Gonzaga Prep where he went on to play for the Spokane Braves and then started his officiating career. In 1990, he moved to the NHL as one of only 11 referees in the league. He officiated his first Stanley Cup in 2009 and was only the second American referee to do so. When Dennis retired in 2016, he had worked 1,222 NHL games, officiated in the 2010 Olympics, and was ranked eighth on the all-time list of hockey officials in the world.
Bud Namek – Contributor – Bud is a legend in the local broadcasting world. He joined KXLY as the sports director in 1982 and spent 13 years in that position. He was twice named state sportscaster of the year by the National Sports Media Association and is a charter member of the Washington State Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He was the radio voice of the WSU basketball team and on the football broadcast team for 22 years. Now, he’s known for his play-by-play of Whitworth sports and is active with several charities in the Spokane community.
