PULLMAN, Wash. – New conference, new coaching staff, new Cougs.
Washington State’s season-opener featured so many ‘new’ factors, that it was hard to predict what this team would look like under new head coach David Riley.
The Cougars gave fans quite the scare in the first half; WSU was down 21-4 at one point.
All but two players are wearing a Coug logo for the first time – so we can chalk it up to nerves for now… but luckily, Washington State squeezed past an opponent that should’ve been a slam dunk.
The Cougars defeat Portland State in Beasley Coliseum, 100-92.
WSU’s starting guard Cedric Coward had 23 points, Monday night, along with every other starter scoring double-digits against the Knights.
Sophomore Isaiah Watts came off the bench in a big way for the Cougs and tallied 20 points, while hitting 4-of-5 three-point attempts.
Washington State is back in action Friday, November 8 against Bradley in Beasley Coliseum. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. in Pullman.
