PULLMAN, Wash – The small town of Pullman and the Washington State University community are reeling from the death this weekend of a teenage boy killed in a crash.
13-year-old Zion Bischoff was traveling to Spokane from Pullman Saturday morning on Highway 195.
A semi lost control on the ice and jackknifed across the oncoming lanes. The car Bischoff was riding in was hit and pushed into two other cars.
Zion died at the hospital where his father was also being treated for his injuries.
Bischoff’s father works at WSU.
WSU football coach Jake Dickert opened a news conference Monday talking about the loss, saying his daughter was friends with Zion, as were the children of other WSU coaches.
The team will wear a helmet patch with his initials to honor him at their game this weekend against Oregon State.
“We are one community,” an emotional Dickert said. “Our condolences from our football program go out to Zion’s family, his friends, people that knew him. He was a great young man.”
