SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane has been selected as an official fan zone for the 2026 FIFA World Cup!
Seattle is one of the 16 host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Seattle FIFA World Cup 26 Local Organizations Committee made the announcement Tuesday that Spokane is one of nine designated fan zones across the state.
Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown said the city is excited to be a fan zone and this will be tremendous for kids and families in the area.
“Spokane is thrilled to be a designated SeattleFWC26 fan zone! This global soccer celebration will unite our local and regional community and showcase our city’s passion for this game,” said Mayor Brown. “We cannot wait to welcome fans to experience the spirit of Spokane.”
Programming for fan zones during the World Cup matches could include live entertainment, interactive fan activities and delicious food and drinks.
While city officials are still in the beginning stages of figuring out how to make Spokane a fan zone city, it plans to stream games at places like the Pavilion to create a communal event and encourage kids to get out and play.
United Soccer League Spokane, which fields two of our city’s professional soccer teams, says it can’t wait to support the fan zone.
“We’re excited to watch our players who represent a variety of different countries support their country and follow this soccer journey,” said USL Spokane marketing specialist Reilly Harnetiaux. “It’ll be cool to see the little kids who now have a first taste of that and they get to be involved too. It’s uniting Spokane because it’s bringing us all together to support an incredible sporting event.”
Specific fan zone locations within each city will be announced at a later date.
“We are also in competition as a proposed base camp for one of the teams, so we have our fingers crossed,” Mayor Brown said.
The Seattle FIFA World Cup 26 Local Organizing Committee said we will know whether a team selects Spokane as a base came in spring of next year.
