PECK, Idaho — Jeff Greene is the talk of his hometown, and rightfully so.
In late February, Greene punched his ticket to the Special Olympics World Games in Turin, Italy; fulfilling a dream 30 years in the making.
“It was so cool to be there,” he said with a grin.
Greene was Idaho’s sole representative at the World Games, competing in the snowshoe championships. The Peck native worked his way to the medal round in the 50 meter race.
With a surge of adrenaline, and a smile, Jeff charged through the finish line, finishing third overall. As he stepped onto the podium, the Olympian raised his arms and proudly accepted his bronze medal.
“I’m just happy I got the medal,” Greene said. “I’m proud to be an American.”
His family was with him the whole way; his mother Nancy beamed with pride as her son donned his new piece of hardware.
“He made his dreams come true, as well as ours,” she said. “Just a huge amount of memories. Life-changing, it really was life-changing.”
