SPOKANE, Wash. — With all the excitement surrounding March Madness and all the visitors in Spokane this weekend, Spokane Sports threw an action-packed Fan Fest celebration.
This weekend’s crowds make it hard to ignore the impact women’s sports has on the community and the impact on the younger generation.
“They’re more inspiring to me,” said Lily Lehrman, who traveled from Pasco, Washington.
Lehrman came to Spokane to see her favorite player Paige Bueckers play.
“I started watching women’s basketball because my friends were really into the UConn team and Paige records,” Lehrman said. “I thought that she was really cool so I wanted to come watch her for one of her games.”
As a basketball player, she’s taking notes from the stands.
“I feel like I learn a lot more watching the women’s sports than I do from men’s,” Lehrman said.
It wasn’t just Fan Fest that honored women’s sports.
“Spokane Sports was hosting these female athletes back to back to back to back weeks. Because of that, we added in some other events,” said Spokane Sports’ director of marketing Keytra Lewis. “We hosted just this weekend Beyond the Baseline women’s panel as well as a youth clinic and so that was a lot of fun.”
There was no shortage of fun at Fan Fest or at the women’s games this weekend.
“It makes me feel really happy,” said Lehrman.
