SPOKANE, Wash. – Down three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Gonzaga Bulldogs pulled off an improbable comeback to stun the Saint Mary’s Gaels in a walk-off 9-8 win.
Gonzaga trailed 7-1 in the middle of the sixth inning, and then scored four runs in the bottom half, sparked by a solo Sam Stem home run.
Tommy Eisenstat’s bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth was the winner, and the Zags have four wins in their last five games.
Josh Hankins had an absurd five-hit, four-RBI game, plus two or more hits from five other Gonzaga batters.
The Zags return to the diamond tomorrow for Game 2 at 6:00 p.m.
