MOSCOW, Idaho – The preseason No. 12 Idaho Vandals continued week two of fall football camp just like week one: full of energy.
“The progress overall has been very good. I think we’re right where we want to be,” head coach Tom Ford said. “But we gotta just keep on chucking away and getting better.”
The Vandals chose a new starting quarterback this weekend, Fresno State transfer Joshua Wood, who says he’s easing into his new team seamlessly.
“I’ve known a couple of these guys since Little League, so meshing with them and gelling up together, it was no problem,” Wood said. “Meeting new guys, like the captains like Zo, Leighton on the offense, being able just to meet them, know them personally, to be able to mesh together, it’s just been wonderful.”
Coach Ford says he sees this progress and values Wood’s leadership, even at just week two of camp.
“Yeah, I think the first thing that I see is that he’s a hard worker,” Ford said. “He’s a guy that has no ego, he did not come in here telling everyone how great he was.”
Ford now commands a unit forging ahead for their first fully-padded practice coming up on Wednesday, also the same day as their first scrimmage.
“But I thought it was good, we want to be a physical team, that’s our No. 1 thing in terms of our identity on the field, and so I think what you’re seeing in the pads is guys taking that to heart and taking that to heart to really be a physical football team.”
The Vandals open their season at the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, August 30th.
