SPOKANE, Wash. – For the first time, Spokane County’s only Division I football program held an event in Spokane proper.
Eastern Washington welcomed over 1,000 fans to ONE Spokane Stadium for the program’s debut to the venue, playing hard action of offensive and defense in front of their fans.
“I do think the fans played, I do think the weather played, it cooled down a little bit. But playing well, it helps each other out when guys make plays, and some of those young guys make plays, they’re rooting for each other,” coach Best said. “Emotion certainly is the one way this game is played, and challenging those guys to play with emotion but not playing emotional, the room for error is like ‘that’, so I think our guys did a pretty good job of that today.”
Defensive end Tylin Jackson was a large part of the infectious energy, telling us what it’s like to be on the sidelines with him and the other student-athletes.
“We’re on the sideline, you may be looking at your d-line, and you see Landen Kahai get a pick-6, and you just abort the conversation and you just start jumping up and down like ‘yeah, let’s go, let’s go,'” So, it’s exciting to be able to have that juice for your teammates when they’re making plays, especially the younger guys, so I just think it’s good when you make plays, you get to have juice, and it just keeps the flow going.”
The Eagles have another scrimmage in fall camp back in Cheney next Friday at 3:00 p.m.
