MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals handled business in Week 2, pushing past the St. Thomas Tommies 37-30.
Idaho, in a special “Fightin’ Taters” day, mashed the Tommies in the second and fourth quarter, outscoring them 34-20 across those frames. Seven of St. Thomas’ 14 fourth-quarter points were on a short touchdown with 11 seconds remaining.
Joshua Wood opened play with an interception, but he followed it up with a 281-passing yard and 87-rushing yard performance, including four touchdowns.
The win is Coach Tom Ford’s first as the Vandals head, and he was greatly appreciative of the strong home support.
“Oh, it was awesome,” Ford said. “This place is a very special place to play football, and I’ve been very aware of that since coming to games as a spectator, so to see that student section rockin’, see the band rollin’, obviously, all our supporters on the home side was very, very exciting, and I’m really looking forward to seeing even more people next week.”
Idaho looks to continue to keep home perfection with a date in the Kibbie Dome against the Utah Tech Trailblazers next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
