SPOKANE VALLEY — A structure fire early Thursday morning temporarily disrupted traffic on Trent Avenue as firefighters battled flames in a converted basement.
SREC 911 dispatchers received multiple fire reports at 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 21, according to SVFD officials.
Conflicting caller information initially placed the fire at Progress and Trent, but the actual location was nearly a mile away.
The confusion caused a three-minute delay, with first units arriving seven minutes after the initial call, fire officials said.
Crews found a residential structure on commercial property with active fire showing, according to the fire department. The fire originated in a converted basement with “maze-like conditions.”
Firefighters battled flames that extended from the basement through the main floor into the attic. By 1:31 a.m., crews extinguished all active fire, according to SVFD.
Fire investigators are examining electrical components as a potential cause.
The department reminded residents not to overload electrical circuits during winter months.
