Red Sox place Gray on IL with hamstring strain

Red Sox starter Sonny Gray, in his first season with Boston after being acquired in a trade from St. Louis in November, was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain Tuesday, a day after he left a start against the Detroit Tigers.
