NEW YORK, N.Y. – Victor Wenbanyama and the San Antonio Spurs bounced back from a 2-0 hole at home to beat the New York Knicks in the first Madison Square Garden NBA Finals game since 1999.
That 1999 series was a 4-1 San Antonio win, and New York looks for their first NBA title since 1973.
Wenbanyama finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, the youngest player to put up at least a 30-5-5 Finals game since Magic Johnson in the 1980s.
No team has ever come back and won an NBA title after losing both Game 1 and 2 at home, and San Antonio’s win tonight marks the first Finals Game 1-3 all featuring road winners since 1993.
The Knicks and Spurs meet again in Game 4 on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. on ABC.
