SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth turned a fast start and a punishing second half into a 41–6 victory over Pacific, using efficient scoring drives and a balanced offensive attack to seize control of the matchup.
The Pirates set the tone in the opening quarter with a 48-yard field goal from Iden Bone after a 12-play, 47-yard possession that consumed more than seven minutes. Whitworth struck again before the quarter ended, as Logan Lacio found Nate Peterson for a 7-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds remaining. The quick four-play, 58-yard drive gave Whitworth a 10–0 advantage after one quarter.
Pacific’s defense kept the margin within reach for much of the first half, but Bone extended Whitworth’s lead to 13–0 just before halftime by connecting on a 55-yard field goal. The kick capped a 15-play, 58-yard drive and gave Whitworth momentum heading into the break.
Whitworth removed any suspense early in the third quarter. Lacio opened the half with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Drake Matthies, finishing a seven-play, 82-yard drive for a 20–0 lead. Moments later, a Pacific turnover set Whitworth up at the 2-yard line, and Kurt Solano scored on the next snap to make it 27–0.
Pacific answered with its lone touchdown midway through the third quarter. Carson Mullins powered in from one yard out to finish a six-play, 23-yard drive and put the Boxers on the board. Whitworth, however, quickly regained control in the fourth quarter.
Lacio connected with Matthew Ehler for a 5-yard touchdown early in the final period, completing a seven-play, 78-yard drive. He added his fourth touchdown pass of the game later in the quarter, finding Deacon Dietz on a 23-yard scoring strike to complete the 41–6 final.
Whitworth’s ability to sustain drives and strike for explosive plays proved decisive. The Pirates logged scoring possessions of 12 and 15 plays in the first half, then paired those long drives with touchdown passes of 40 and 23 yards after halftime. Pacific showed resolve with its third-quarter scoring drive, but Whitworth’s 28-point second half put the game out of reach.
The result moved Whitworth to 2-1, they’ll travel to George Fox next week.
