SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga men’s basketball team will wear patches on their jerseys to honor Brandon Clarke, who died in May.
Clarke played for Gonzaga in 2018-2019 and was a first-round pick in the 2019 NBA draft.
Clarke’s death sent shock waves through the Gonzaga community and across the NBA, especially in Memphis where he played for seven years in the league.
Gonzaga men’s basketball coach Mark Few remembers former Zag Brandon Clarke as having a “kind, gentle, and warm soul.”
“BC was one of the most easygoing players we’ve ever had,” Few said in a statement posted to social media. “And he was part of one of the greatest teams in our program’s history.”
Clarke, 29, was found unresponsive at a home in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley on May 11. Narcotics were found at the scene and there was no evidence of foul play, sources told ABC News at the time.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office said died from “the effects of heroin and cocaine,” and it was ruled an accident.
