Gamecocks standout Kennard opting out of bowl

South Carolina’s Kyle Kennard, who won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the top defensive player in college football, is opting out of the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against Illinois, coach Shane Beamer said Wednesday.
