MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho’s football program may have a new head coach, but he’s not a new face for the Vandal community.
Thomas Ford Jr. was named the 37th head football coach in Idaho’s program history, Wednesday.
Friday was his ‘re-introduction’ to the community.
Ford coached under former head coach Jason Eck during the 2022 and 2023 seasons as a special teams coordinator and running backs coach.
In 2024, Ford left Idaho to coach the running backs at Oregon State.
Now, Ford is back in Moscow ready to build on the foundation he had a hand in and will work to fill the holes on the Vandal roster with the loss of several starters to the transfer portal.
“He’s regarded as one of the top recruiters in college football,” said Idaho Athletic Director Terry Gawlik.
And Coach Ford is eager to implement his process.
“When I talked to people about this job the one thing they asked, why do you want to go back?” said Coach Ford. “Why wouldn’t I want to come back? I felt so much a part of this year’s team. I watched every single game I possibly could.
