TACOMA, Wash – The Gonzaga Prep girls basketball team has lost only two games this season. Unfortunately, one of those losses came in the state quarterfinal game Thursday at the Tacoma Dome.
The Bullpups were the five seed, playing 11-seeded Kennedy Catholic.
Kennedy Catholic had a five-point lead at halftime. Prep closed the lead to three at the end of the third quarter.
Kennedy Catholic then held the Bullpups to just six points in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a 65-52 victory.
Junior Aylah Cornwall led the Bullpups with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Junior Charlee Peterson had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Senior Laura Thompson finished with 11 points.
Sophomore phenom Jayden Fitzgerald led Kennedy Catholic with 32 points.
Gonzaga Prep now moves into the consolation bracket.
They play Lake Stevens Friday at 9 am. A win puts them in the fifth place game on Saturday.
