VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Seattle Sounders opened their 2026 Concacaf Champions League run on a bang, crushing the Vancouver Whitecaps, 3-0, to take the away leg of the Round of 16.
Paul Arriola scored a brace and Paul Rothrock added the final strike in a routine victory.
Today was Arriola’s first match since tearing his ACL in last year’s Champions League, that match exactly one year and a day ago.
This win is especially impressive as Vancouver sits ay a perfect three wins in its first MLS matches this season, and they remain unbeaten in league play through their first five games.
Seattle will advance into the Champions League quarterfinals with a win, draw, or even loss any less than a 4-1 Vancouver win.
The Sounders host their home leg at ONE Spokane Stadium next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
