SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Zephyr remains in the thick of a tight playoff race for the final USL Super League postseason spot, and they face the DC Power this weekend in a key game for the race.
“I think we’re aware that it’s going to be a big game,” Silano said. “And all you can do is prepare and train like you play. And I think that’s what we’ve been doing and as well as probably DC. So it’s going to be a good matchup.”
A win over DC eliminates the Power, as this weekend marks their regular-season finale, and a Spokane win hops them above Dallas Trinity if they draw or lose this weekend.
“You know, we’re basically in playoff mode already,” Hisey said. “It’s kind of win or go home. So that, you know, is an exciting opportunity. I think we try to frame pressure as more of that opportunity and a privilege, and to be able to play for points that matter at this stage in the season, not every team in the league can say that. So we’re really kind in and looking forward to this match.”
The Zephyr tout one of the strongest home atmospheres in the league, and they need all the help they can muster in a 509 weekend, celebrating all things Spokane.
“Anytime we can be at ONE Spokane Stadium and play in front of our amazing fans, it’s definitely a bonus for us not to travel, but to have them supporting us, cheering us on and to do it on 509 day,” Lukic said. “Yeah, it’s a special day and hopefully a day where we can earn three points and continue to make that push for the last playoff spot.”
“I’m a huge believer in timing,” Silano said. “And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s 509 Night, and it’s a big night for us. So, I mean, the more the merrier. We definitely need the crowd because they do make a difference for us.”
Kickoff against the Power comes Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
