LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The United States sure made an entrance for their first-hosted FIFA World Cup match in 32 years.
The United States men’s national team (USMNT) crushed Paraguay, 4-1, to not only open the 2026 FIFA World Cup atop Group D, but also break the record for their most goals scored in any World Cup match.
Defender Chris Richards also broke the record for the most completed 100% accurate passes (83), all done in his first match recovered from a lower leg injury.
Falorin Balogun scored twice, becoming the first American with multiple goals in one World Cup match since Bert Patenaude’s hat trick in 1930.
The USA next faces Australia next Friday, June 12, at noon in Seattle.
