SPOKANE, Wash – It’s not often that one of the greatest soccer players in the world is walking shirtless down a Spokane city street, but that was the case Tuesday in Spokane.
Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah posted a picture on Instagram Tuesday of himself and several teammates walking on North Washington, not far from One Spokane Stadium.
Salah and the Pharaohs are using Spokane as their home base during this World Cup.
The team has won one match and the other ended in a tie. Their last game of the group stage is Friday in Seattle against Iran.
The Pharaohs arrived in Spokane June 6th. The team is training at Gonzaga University and staying at Northern Quest Resort and Casino.
The Seattle Times reported Monday that Egypt requested to spend the entire week in Seattle before the match. FIFA turned down the request, citing last-minute logistical concerns.
FIFA reversed course Tuesday, saying Egypt will be allowed to train Wednesday in Seattle.
FIFA told the Seattle Times teams are supposed to stay at their base camp location until the day before the round of 32 match.
After that, teams can bounce around, based on venues for their next games.
