SPOKANE, Wash. — With summer vacation now in its second week for Spokane County students, the Hub Sports Center has launched a program aimed at keeping kids active, engaged, and connected to their community, all at no cost to families.
The program, called Play Unplugged, presents children with 20 different challenges, each sponsored by a local business. The goal is to encourage kids to step away from their devices and take part in hands-on activities.
“Kids can complete the challenge and then go to the corresponding local business and pick up their brag tag. So it is super easy, super accessible, and it is all free,” said Shea-Lynn Gerred of the Hub Sports Center.
Once a child completes a challenge, they can visit the sponsoring local business to collect a “brag tag”, a plastic tag modeled after military dog tags. The front of each tag features an image of the activity, while the back includes tracking information specific to that tag.
Families can log the tag online through the Hub Sports Center’s website to earn points. At the end of the summer, accumulated points enter participants into a raffle for a prize. Winners will be announced at the Family Fun Festival on October 2nd.
