SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Velocity bid farewell to their first-ever hoemgrown signing, midfielder Rocky Wells.
The former Mead Panthers star came to Spokane last summer, and he leaves for the Oregon State Beavers effective immediately, departing Washington for Oregon after Wednesday evening’s match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
“I couldn’t be more thankful and blessed for the last two years I’ve had here,” Wells said. “I mean, the amount I’ve learned and the amount I think I’ve developed as a player is… it’s been exponential. And I’m just so lucky to have amazing guys in the locker room and an amazing staff and most importantly, an amazing city.”
Head coach Leigh Veidman added his support for Wells, saying his high character checks the boxes the team wants in new Velocity members.
“We’re really happy for him,” Veidman said. “I’m sure he’s going to do a fantastic job in school, have a fantastic career in college, and who knows, maybe one day we’ll see him back in a Velocity shirt.”
Spokane next faces Corpus Christi FC on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 6:00 p.m.
