SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga fans packed McCarthey Athletic Center for another edition of Kraziness in the Kennel, and the annual preseason event delivered energy, highlights and an early glimpse of what could be ahead for the Bulldogs.
The scrimmage was led by sophomore wing Davis Fogle, who put together a standout performance for the White team. Fogle scored 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting and connected on six of seven attempts from three-point range. He also added another memorable moment by winning the dunk contest, showing off the athleticism and confidence that could make him a major factor this season.
While Fogle grabbed much of the attention, Gonzaga also received encouraging signs elsewhere on the roster. Braden Huff returned to the floor and contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, giving the Zags an important frontcourt presence as he works back from a left knee injury. Center Massamba Diop flashed his defensive potential with an early blocked shot, while guard Isiah Harwell added 17 points and knocked down four three-pointers.
The transfer additions added another element of excitement. Diop joins the frontcourt after transferring from Arizona State, while guard Xaivian Lee, forward Chauncey Wiggins and point guard Javon Bennett bring experience from Florida, Florida State and Dayton. The new faces give Gonzaga more depth, versatility and options as the coaching staff begins sorting out the rotation.
Still, the complete picture is not settled. Eligibility remains a key question for Lee, Wiggins and Bennett. Lee’s court hearing was delayed this week, while Wiggins and Bennett are technically ineligible at this time. Until those situations are resolved, it is difficult to know exactly what Gonzaga’s final rotation will look like or when each player could be available.
There is still a long way to go before Gonzaga’s season takes shape, but the event offered a positive first impression. Fogle’s performance stood out most, while Huff’s return and the potential impact of Gonzaga’s newcomers gave fans plenty to follow in the weeks ahead.
