YAKIMA, Wash. — Mt. Spokane left Kiwanis Field with another state championship Saturday. Four other Greater Spokane League teams left with trophies of their own.
The Wildcats beat Deer Park 13-2 in the 3A/2A final to claim their fourth consecutive slowpitch title. Deer Park finished second, Ridgeline took third with a 13-2 win over fourth-place Shadle Park, and Ferris placed second in 4A after falling 13-6 to Chiawana.
Mt. Spokane completed a 21-0 season behind senior Avery Fox, who went 4 for 4 with five RBIs. Fox hit a two-run double in the fourth inning, then ended the game with a walk-off single in the fifth. Emme Bond added three hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats, while Isabel Keene also had three hits.
For Deer Park, the runner-up finish marked a rapid rise. The Stags are only in their third season playing slowpitch. Kapri Bailey went 3 for 3 with an RBI in the championship game.
Ridgeline earned its first slowpitch state trophy in its third-place matchup with Shadle Park. Persais Triplett hit a three-run inside-the-park home run, and Addie Lent drove in three runs for the Falcons.
Ferris came close to adding a second GSL championship. The Saxons led Chiawana 6-4 in the fourth inning of the 4A final, but the Riverhawks pulled away for the win. Ferris had reached the title game by rallying from an early 10-1 deficit to beat Eastmont 16-13 in the semifinals.
By the end of Saturday, every GSL team that played for a trophy had one to take home: a championship, two runner-up finishes, a third place and a fourth place.
