MADISON, Wisc. – The Spokane Velocity only needed one season to clinch their first championship game berth.
The Velocity upset Forward Madison FC in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw through regulation and extra time.
Spokane finished seventh out of 12 teams in the league this year, but after their pair of upsets, they improbably are one of the final two teams remaining.
They will attempt to be the first expansion side in USL League One history to win a championship as they are set to battle the top regular-season club Union Omaha in the title match.
Spokane’s championship match is this Sunday in Omaha at noon.
