SPOKANE, Wash. — Parasport Spokane and Guardian teamed up for a wheelchair basketball showcase at Hoopfest.
Non-disabled athletes tried their luck in a game of wheelchair basketball against some of the best para athletes in the region.
“It’s their first time,” Parasport Athlete Jack Coy said. “It’s just fun to see how their lay of the and is, how they think things are. It’s kind of fun to see them going about.”
There are an estimated 25 wheelchair basketball teams competing at Hoopfest across all division.
“It pulls in people from community and people to try the sport,” Head of Corporate Social Responsibility Francine Chew said. “It gets people with disabilities to play and to move and to feel great for a weekend.”
Parasport Spokane is in need of a new practice facility by the end of July.
